Virtual Camp 2020

We are pleased to let you know that we have been collaborating with Tapawingo’s sister camps in Canada to prepare a quality virtual program.  Our aim is to offer a camp for girls that encourages the development and practice of the virtues in an environment of joy and friendship.

Although this year camp will be facilitated through the Zoom platform, we are also excited to incorporate opportunities for the girls to participate in hands-on activities – even if it is not possible to physically be together.  Our team of energetic and hard-working volunteers has put together a quality experience which we want to invite your daughters to attend.

Below is the key information for your family to get involved:

CAMP DATES & HOURS 

July 20 (Monday) to July 22 (Wednesday), 2020 – inclusive

Camp will involve, minimal, online time as well as instructions for ‘live’ activities: 

  • Campers meet each morning of the three (3) day camp from 9:00 – 10:00 am. 

  • Leaders-in-training (LITs) will meet each morning of the three (3) day camp from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm.

CAMP ACTIVITIES

Each registered camper and LIT will be sent a Camp-in-a-Box containing supplies and instructions for crafts and activities during the three mornings. There will even be challenge activities to complete outside of the virtual sessions. The registration form contains a general list of box contents. While we want to be transparent about what will be received through fee payment, we also want to keep the element of surprise for the campers. REGISTRATION AS A CAMPER

Campers are girls from ages 9 to 12 (required to be at least 9 years of age before June 1, 2020).

There will be no restriction on how many campers can register for this virtual adventure. Campers will be placed into cabin groups with a Counsellor and a Counsellor-in-Training. The size and number of cabin groups will be determined by how many registrations are received. During this hour campers will receive a formational talk on virtues and share in activities such as crafts, drama and games.

REGISTRATION AS AN L.I.T.

Leaders-in-Training are girls aged 13 or 14 (required to be at least 13 years of age before June 1, 2020).

Our programme challenges these young women to take on active leadership roles during camp, helping prepare them for their future. The mentorship programme, along with participation in co-operative activities, as well as in spiritual and cultural formation classes allows L.I.T.’s to grow in self-knowledge, friendship, and in faith. Having received this excellent training, many L.I.T.s later apply for staff positions at Tapawingo Trails Camp.

Leaders-in-Training (L.I.T.s) will spend their camp mornings in four (4) sessions, with short breaks in between. These will include a daily meditation given by a priest of Opus Dei, leadership talks, and leadership development activities. We will also provide you and your daughter with a ‘Check-in Phone Call’ at some point in the afternoon of those days – an opportunity to give and receive feedback on the leadership activities. All in all, we are very confident that our L.I.T. programme will transfer smoothly to this virtual format

This year all Leaders-in-Training (L.I.T.s) must complete an application form in addition to registering as a camper. The application requires a 250-word essay describing why the candidate would like to be an L.I.T. – further directions can be found on the application form. The L.I.T. Director will be calling each applicant for a phone interview between June 13 and June 20, 2020.

REGISTRATION FEES

A registration fee of $75/camper will cover the cost of Camp-in-a-Box contents, its shipping & handling, and a $25 donation to the food bank (this donation is encouraged, though optional).

REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Registrations for Campers and Leaders-in-Training must be received by June 12, 2020. This deadline is required in order to have enough time to order t-shirts, and prepare and send the Camp-in-a-Box.

CANCELLATION POLICY

No refunds will be made after the June 12, 2020 registration deadline.
